Story
Founded in the Tenbun era (over 460 years ago), it is one of the oldest sake breweries in Japan. The brewery is located along the Hokkoku Kaido Road at the northernmost tip of Lake Biwa, at the foot of Mt. Shizugatake. Currently the good-looking 15th generation brewer makes sake. The brewery still uses a warehouse built in the Edo period (1603-1868). The brewery does not only want to hand down sake, but also wants to preserve the environment surrounding the sake as much as possible. In the early Taisho period (1912-1926), the brewery had a relationship with a young man named Kitaoji Rosanjin who stayed in the Kohoku area, and the brewery displays a flat plaque ("Shichihonyari") presented to the brewery by him.
