Story
In 1875, KOEDOKAGAMIYAMA CO., LTD., the current brewery's predecessor, was founded in Shintomicho, Kawagoe City, known as the "City of Warehouses." However, in September 2000, the brewery closed its doors, ending its long history, and the sake breweries were gone from the city. Six years later, in February 2007, in response to passionate calls from local government and citizens hoping for its revival, Akihiro Igarashi - brother of the current head of IGARASHI BREWERY (Hanno City) - and others established KOEDOKAGAMIYAMA CO., LTD. in Nakamachi, Kawagoe City. Though the brewery is small, about the size of a tennis court, it is known for its compact sake brewing process, carried out by a small, innovative team. They are also strongly committed to local production and consumption, collaborating with local farmers to cultivate "Sakemusashi," a new sake rice variety suited for sake brewing. This ensures the use of safe, fresh, and locally-grown rice. They also operate two retail outlets: one at the Kawagoe City Industrial and Tourism Center "Koedo Kurari," which is a renovated builing from former Kagamiyama Shuzo, and another at "Kawagoe Sake Shop," located in the Takishima House, a tangible cultural property built in 1895, situated along Kawagoe's main tourist street.
